We Used To Be Friends is a cooperative teenage detective game that uses the Powered by the Apocalypse Engine. It’s heavily influenced by Veronica Mars, and other noir detective stories like Jessica Jones, Riverdale, and the Philip Marlowe books. Work together to create the mystery, and slowly uncover the clues to figure out who did it. This game is being released through Patreon, and pledging just $5 will get you the PDF version!
One of the exciting ways We Used To Be Friends works is with a focus on cooperative play. You’ll use move like Gumshoe to find clues in scenes, and then Put It All Together to associate those clues with suspects, or create a new suspect to the mystery. Work with three levels of mystery: episode one which will help solve what’s happening now, personal mystery which is something just your character wants to know, and the season long mystery that will change everything.Continue reading →
It begins. Not with a whisper, but with a bang. And as the war draws closer to drawing first blood, Chaos has risen from the ashes in a plot to stop you from saving the One Land from total destruction. Will you step forth to save your homeland or will you join the forces of anarchy and watch it burn?

Download 84 pages of wire-fu action in a fantasy land of endless possibilities, wild powers, bullets vs. swords, and so much more… for FREE. From ENnie Award winning publisher and game designer Todd Crapper, High Plains Samurai is the ultimate wire-fu action mash-up combining gunslingers, samurai, steampunk, barbarians, gangsters and superpowers in a post-apocalyptic world torn apart by a war of gods. Complete the various surveys as the game evolves to earn playtest points and achieve rewards when the playtest comes to a close on May 14, 2017. It’s all right here on the HPS Rehearsal Edition page.
Plus, there’s a special incentive to help us fight Chaos. A couple of weeks ago, someone hacked our Twitter account and is masquerading as Chaos. (Pay attention to the rumours that it’s Chaos using their limited powers to creep through to our world… those are currently unconfirmed.) Despite our best effort, this hack continues today so we’ve added a new reward: challenge Chaos to a fight using our @BrokenRuler handle on Twitter and you’ll earn 1 playtest point. That’s enough right there to give you credit in the finished product (scheduled for release in 2018). Show this powerless fiend that we don’t sit back and let someone try to destroy everything we’ve worked so hard to create, show Chaos you are the heroes ready to thwart his plans to destroy the One Land.
Over the coming weeks, the Rehearsal Edition will continue to evolve and we’ll provide additional content, behind-the-scenes videos with the game’s creator, and answer your question on how HPS works. We’d also love to read your own experiences playing HPS – comment below or share them on social media with #SaveTheOneLand or #HighPlainsSamurai. Show off your characters and let’s make this game something truly epic. Together.
The GM. We call them by many names: Gamemaster; Dungeon Master; Dragonmaster; Loremaster; MC; Navigator; friend; enemy; frenemy. They keep the games moving, usually downwards along with our HP, oversee the rules, and generally plot our demise. They are, at once, cruise director, narrator, evil mastermind, and the nucleus of our gaming atom. On March 4th each year, we honor these special individuals with GM’s Day, and the IGDN is helping the festivities by offering some of our favorite games at a nice, tidy discount. But you don’t need to be a GM to enjoy the savings! Here are just a few of our offerings this year.
TAG Sessions has numerous games for sale and Tobie Abad’s excellent A Single Moment is right at the top of that list. This innovative RPG is about the flashing moment of a samurai duel, and is for two players.
Eloy Lasanta and Third Eye Games’ entire catalog is participating in the sale!Sins of the Father is one of his newest creations. It’s a game about “spiritual debt”, magic, and evil and uses an especially cool playing card-based resolution mechanic. Give it a look, along with all the other favorites like the AMP series and Ninja Crusade.
Have a look at Todd Crapper’s many games, including ScreenPlay. In this unique story game, you star as writers creating a great work together, developing characters, and telling tales. Based on this ruleset is the Ironbound setting, a dark fantasy game where you tell the story of magick hunters in an original world.Continue reading →
