The first adventure in the World of Uteria is now available!

We have heard the story before—of farmers’ crops ravaged and animals gone missing. The locals claim some supernatural force is at work. But could their superstitions be true this time?

The Goblins of Kaelnor Forest: A Pathfinder-compatible adventure set in the World of Uteria.

coverfinalprint-webThis first-level adventure takes the adventurers into the Kaelnor Forest. While the eastern side of the forest has long been the home of the forest elves, the western side is infested with goblins, boggarts, spiders, and more.

The adventure takes players through the forest, where they must investigate a rumor of mysterious creatures raiding local farms. They begin in South Hollow, a farming community south of Ferryport proper, and will travel deep into the dark, enchanted woods. Are there supernatural creatures in the woods taking the farmers’ stores? Will they survive the strange fey forest?

The adventure comes with 5 pre-made player characters, so players can jump right into the adventure.

Available at both the Sagaborn storefront and Drive-Thru RPG.

Metatopia Scholarship Deadline, Oct. 6rd!

In collaboration with Double Exposure, the Indie Game Developer Network (IGDN) is offering a sponsorship for a game developer to attend Metatopia, The Game Design Festival. This sponsorship will cover a room, and convention registration, as well as up to $400 of travel expenses. This sponsorship is part of the IGDN’s larger mission of supporting a thriving game design community filled with a diverse and exciting set of voices.

The sponsorship will be awarded to a designer who hails from marginalized communities or whose work supports the discussion and exploration of issues that affect diverse groups. Designers who are interested in applying for the sponsorship must fill out an application form, found here, by October 6th, 2014: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1xActYijnkdaOIUDfJNS-ZBhZK-yYhzXkvBb5Iz1Dzg0/viewform
It is not a requirement that an applicant’s work is published to be considered for the sponsorship, but they must be working on a game. The IGDN is committed to bringing new and undiscovered talent, especially from diverse communities, into the gaming industry, and the application committee will be looking at a variety of factors in addition to publishing credits. Current IGDN members cannot apply for the sponsorship, although we hope that sponsorship finalists will consider joining the IGDN after Metatopia.

MetatopiaFlyerV1Applications will go to a committee of IGDN members who will look over all the applications and discuss the applicants’ strengths. After they have looked at and discussed each application, they will nominate a winner. The nomination will go to the IGDN President and Treasurer for final approval. Once final approval is made, then the winner will be notified by October 12th, 2014 and arrangements will be made with Double Exposure for payment upon arrival at the convention.

Please publicize this effort, even if you are not interested in applying. We want a diverse set of applicants from all corners of the industry! We look forward to your applications!

Gen Con 2014 Indie Game Showcase

IGSbanner

This year, the IGDN returned to the Gen Con exhibitors hall with a refined focus: showcase the latest and greatest independent role playing games.

IGDNbooth

Booth4v2We established the Indie Game Showcase to do just that. Between the ever-busy booth, a popular destination in the main hall, the IGDN also put together a game room where independent games were being run at all hours of the day.
Both the exhibitor booth and the game room were a huge success for us which was both incredibly humbling and incredibly exciting. The interest in the booth’s products and the sheer number of return customers turned this Gen Con

GRoom1v22014 into the IGDN’s largest and most profitable convention to date.

We would like to give a big shout out to everyone who stopped by the booth to chat with the workers or to get the quick pitch and demo some of our available games. It is because of you and your interest in independent games that all of us at the IGDN are able to do what we do!

Special thanks to IPR for lending us grid-wall!

Special thanks to IPR for lending us grid-wall!

This kind of success will allow us to return to the 2015 convention season with an even bigger and more effective presence. We have great things in store at the IGDN and we can’t wait to share them with you, when the time is right!

So until then, have a great year and we’ll see you all at Gen Con 2015!

Edara: A Steampunk Renaissance to be part of the Indie Game Showcase at GenCon

Edara: A Steampunk Renaissance to be part of the Indie Game Showcase at GenCon 2014! [Booth 1539]

The newly published tabletop role-playing game Edara, A Steampunk Renaissance, will have its first official appearance at Gen Con 2014. A new, Revised Edition Core Rulebook and the first episode of their modular adventure series, entitled “The Prince & the Free City” will go on sale at Gen Con as part of the Independent Game Designer Showcase.

1600x1236Edara: A Steampunk Renaissance was successfully funded through Kickstarter in 2013. Backers were intrigued by its setting, which takes the Steampunk genre, usually set during pre-WWII Germany or Victorian England, and places it neatly inside of Tolkien’s fantasy universe fast forwarded to its cultural and artistic Renaissance. The outcome is a high fantasy world with a long and storied history (thanks to co-creator Carl Harrison’s dual degrees in Latin and Classical Cultures) leading up to a parallel of our own Italian Renaissance where access to Steam Power allows engineers and thinkers the ability to create the gadgets that our own inventors, such as Leonardo da Vinci, could only imagine on paper. The rich world is brought to life for the audience through the writing stylizations of lead writer Ryan Schoon, who has gone on to do work for such companies as Third Eye Games and Design Ministries, who recently funded their game Fragged Empire through an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign.

LowResPDF-OnePageCoverOn sale at Gen Con is the Revised 1st Edition of the game, which is a slightly modified version of the first printing with tweaks and additions suggested by Kickstarter Backers

Edara: A Steampunk Renaissance will also be hosting demo events in the IGDN Game Space at the Marriot Ballroom 7 and will be on sale as part of the Independent Game Designer Showcase being presented by the IGDN at Booth #1539
