Kickstarter for Archive: Historical People, Places, and Events for RPGs

Archive is a collection of adventure sites, NPCs, and events ripped right out of history and perfect for your campaign. It’s a 265-page book with 80 subjects. All have everything you need to make them come alive at your table: sights, smells, history, local color, and even plot hooks and ideas to help you make them yours.

Need a villain? Throw your PCs against Ching Shih, the notorious pirate queen, presented with the tactics and schemes she used to wreak havoc across coastal China! Need a random encounter during travel? Recreate the 1861 encounter of the French corvette Alecton with a dying giant squid, and the social consequences that followed. Need an adventure site? Why not Fort Jefferson, complete with real historical secrets for your PCs to uncover? Archive is designed to help you easily find the perfect plot, site, or NPC for tonight’s game!

The Kickstarter runs until June 5th.

The Battle to Save The One Land Begins! Playtest High Plains Samurai For Free

High Plains Samurai 2017 Broken Ruler Games

It begins. Not with a whisper, but with a bang. And as the war draws closer to drawing first blood, Chaos has risen from the ashes in a plot to stop you from saving the One Land from total destruction. Will you step forth to save your homeland or will you join the forces of anarchy and watch it burn?

High Plains Samurai 2017 Broken Ruler GamesHigh Plains Samurai: The Rehearsal Edition is now available on DriveThruRPG and RPGNow for a 10-week public playtest. Download 84 pages of wire-fu action in a fantasy land of endless possibilities, wild powers, bullets vs. swords, and so much more… for FREE. From ENnie Award winning publisher and game designer Todd Crapper, High Plains Samurai is the ultimate wire-fu action mash-up combining gunslingers, samurai, steampunk, barbarians, gangsters and superpowers in a post-apocalyptic world torn apart by a war of gods. Complete the various surveys as the game evolves to earn playtest points and achieve rewards when the playtest comes to a close on May 14, 2017It’s all right here on the HPS Rehearsal Edition page.

Plus, there’s a special incentive to help us fight Chaos. A couple of weeks ago, someone hacked our Twitter account and is masquerading as Chaos. (Pay attention to the rumours that it’s Chaos using their limited powers to creep through to our world… those are currently unconfirmed.) Despite our best effort, this hack continues today so we’ve added a new reward: challenge Chaos to a fight using our @BrokenRuler handle on Twitter and you’ll earn 1 playtest point. That’s enough right there to give you credit in the finished product (scheduled for release in 2018). Show this powerless fiend that we don’t sit back and let someone try to destroy everything we’ve worked so hard to create, show Chaos you are the heroes ready to thwart his plans to destroy the One Land.

Over the coming weeks, the Rehearsal Edition will continue to evolve and we’ll provide additional content, behind-the-scenes videos with the game’s creator, and answer your question on how HPS works. We’d also love to read your own experiences playing HPS – comment below or share them on social media with #SaveTheOneLand or
#HighPlainsSamurai. Show off your characters and let’s make this game something truly epic. Together.

Companions’ Tale: now on Kickstarter!

Companions’ Tale is a map-making storytelling game about an epic hero—from the point of view of the hero’s companions. You can listen to an actual play on One Shot Podcast, and after years of playtests, the game is now on Kickstarter!

The game is for 3-4 players and takes approximately 2 ½ hours to play. It uses evocative world-building rules, a deck of inspirational themes and art, and a series of rotating roles for shared storytelling. Together, you’ll build the history and culture of the realm, fill in a rich and changing map, and reveal your companions’ tales. Whose version of the hero’s story will become canon, and whose will be a footnote to history?

The Kickstarter launched in February and was quickly funded. The project is open for pledges as it unlocks new Variants, taking your stories in new directions: Continue reading

Dreamchaser coming to Kickstarter January 24th

Dreamchaser 2017 Imagining GamesDreamchaser: A new roleplaying experience coming to Kickstarter January 24th

Who wouldn’t want to sit down at the table and know for certain — without having to depend on the GM — that you’ll be able to experience an amazing story that hits all of the important, exciting beats?  Or to know that everyone will have essential input on the story?  Few games can promise that, and even fewer can guarantee it.  Dreamchaser does.  Each player decides on one or more “Milestones”, story beats that will appear in the story, that are written with a minimum of context.  These Milestones are arranged in a logical order and placed in the center of the table for everyone to see.  In play, the GM will guide the players through each Milestone in order.  Since the player decides on the beat, but not on its context, our characters get to experience them authentically, since we don’t know how they’ll appear in the story, or even that they’ll go well!  That’s up to our characters.

Unlike most roleplaying games, where you start with a setting and build within its box, Dreamchaser lets you create whatever character you want, and then, due to its focus on narrative mechanics, builds the box around you.  The world, its inhabitants, central conflict, even the genre of the game come organically from player input, but seldom explicitly, which leaves the story free to go in directions no one player will expect.  Dreamchaser gives us the freedom to determine and explore our identity, powers, connections, and essential components of the world and story, both at character creation and throughout play.  Because its focus is on player input and contribution above and before anything else, Dreamchaser is ideal for new players who haven’t had their spark of creativity squelched by more traditional, more restrictive systems.  And since anything goes, no two campaigns will look anything alike, giving it replayability truly limited only by our imagination.

Dreamchaser is a game everyone should experience at least once – but you’ll want to play it again and again.  Whatever you want to experience, whatever your dream, Dreamchaser will make it happen.

Dreamchaser comes to Kickstarter on Tuesday, January 24th.

Fragged Empire – is now on Kickstarter, funded within 12 hours!

“Betrayed by your creators, you are a genetically engineered remnant, emerging from the ruin of genocidal war…” sets the scene as players emerge from 100 years of brutal tribalism & savagery after a terrible war and are just now returning to space.

Fragged_Empire_Facebook_v4 (1)Fragged Empire follows four non-human races as they seek to build a new society after barely surviving a genocidal war. As an example one of the playable races (the “Nephilim”) are the descendants of the genetically engineered army that all but wiped out civilisation.

Wade Dyer has been working on Fragged Empire for the last four years with the goal of creating a stylish and exciting sci-fi tabletop game with his excellent eye for design. “I really want the art in my book to show 2 things. Firstly, it needs to convey the tone of the setting; beautiful, modern, detailed, subtle depth, but vibrant & fun. That mix of energy & grit. Secondly, it needs to convey the passionate craftsmanship that has gone into this book.” – Wade

Urban Shadows Kickstarter

KS d20Monkey BannerV2URBAN SHADOWS

After nearly a year and a half of hard work, Magpie Games is proud to announce that Andrew Medeiros has launched the Kickstarter for Urban Shadows, a Powered by the Apocalypse urban fantasy game. And we are publishing it!
US1
A dark urban fantasy tabletop RPG Powered by the Apocalypse. Fight the darkness or let it swallow you whole!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1287928832/urban-shadows-rpg

Here are a few words from Magpie’s Mark Diaz Truman about the release:

765a37392278433eabe574f75d1e0e85_large“I knew when Andrew first talked with me about Urban Shadows that I wanted to publish it. I cut my roleplaying teeth on White Wolf games, and the urban fantasy genre has always spoken to me as a person of color. In these stories, the world that I know and the communities I see are the ones that have screen time!”

So for the last year and a half, Mark and Andrew have been working to get Urban Shadows ready. Now we need your help to get it finished, funding the art, the layout, and the printing for our first run of books. And if we can get a little extra to get us started, we’ll be able to work on new Playbooks (The Hallowed! The Dragon!) and City Guides for cities around the United States (and maybe the world?). In other words, help us make this an awesome game!
