Dreamchaser coming to Kickstarter January 24th

Dreamchaser 2017 Imagining GamesDreamchaser: A new roleplaying experience coming to Kickstarter January 24th

Who wouldn’t want to sit down at the table and know for certain — without having to depend on the GM — that you’ll be able to experience an amazing story that hits all of the important, exciting beats?  Or to know that everyone will have essential input on the story?  Few games can promise that, and even fewer can guarantee it.  Dreamchaser does.  Each player decides on one or more “Milestones”, story beats that will appear in the story, that are written with a minimum of context.  These Milestones are arranged in a logical order and placed in the center of the table for everyone to see.  In play, the GM will guide the players through each Milestone in order.  Since the player decides on the beat, but not on its context, our characters get to experience them authentically, since we don’t know how they’ll appear in the story, or even that they’ll go well!  That’s up to our characters.

Unlike most roleplaying games, where you start with a setting and build within its box, Dreamchaser lets you create whatever character you want, and then, due to its focus on narrative mechanics, builds the box around you.  The world, its inhabitants, central conflict, even the genre of the game come organically from player input, but seldom explicitly, which leaves the story free to go in directions no one player will expect.  Dreamchaser gives us the freedom to determine and explore our identity, powers, connections, and essential components of the world and story, both at character creation and throughout play.  Because its focus is on player input and contribution above and before anything else, Dreamchaser is ideal for new players who haven’t had their spark of creativity squelched by more traditional, more restrictive systems.  And since anything goes, no two campaigns will look anything alike, giving it replayability truly limited only by our imagination.

Dreamchaser is a game everyone should experience at least once – but you’ll want to play it again and again.  Whatever you want to experience, whatever your dream, Dreamchaser will make it happen.

Dreamchaser comes to Kickstarter on Tuesday, January 24th.

“Betrayed by your creators, you are a genetically engineered remnant, emerging from the ruin of genocidal war…” sets the scene as players emerge from 100 years of brutal tribalism & savagery after a terrible war and are just now returning to space.

Fragged_Empire_Facebook_v4 (1)Fragged Empire follows four non-human races as they seek to build a new society after barely surviving a genocidal war. As an example one of the playable races (the “Nephilim”) are the descendants of the genetically engineered army that all but wiped out civilisation.

Wade Dyer has been working on Fragged Empire for the last four years with the goal of creating a stylish and exciting sci-fi tabletop game with his excellent eye for design. “I really want the art in my book to show 2 things. Firstly, it needs to convey the tone of the setting; beautiful, modern, detailed, subtle depth, but vibrant & fun. That mix of energy & grit. Secondly, it needs to convey the passionate craftsmanship that has gone into this book.” – Wade

We hope that a strong showing at GenCon will provide the impetus to bring a revised and expanded edition of Bunny Money Gunny to Kickstarter in 2015.

Urban Shadows Kickstarter

After nearly a year and a half of hard work, Magpie Games is proud to announce that Andrew Medeiros has launched the Kickstarter for Urban Shadows, a Powered by the Apocalypse urban fantasy game. And we are publishing it!

A dark urban fantasy tabletop RPG Powered by the Apocalypse. Fight the darkness or let it swallow you whole!

Here are a few words from Magpie’s Mark Diaz Truman about the release:

765a37392278433eabe574f75d1e0e85_large“I knew when Andrew first talked with me about Urban Shadows that I wanted to publish it. I cut my roleplaying teeth on White Wolf games, and the urban fantasy genre has always spoken to me as a person of color. In these stories, the world that I know and the communities I see are the ones that have screen time!”

So for the last year and a half, Mark and Andrew have been working to get Urban Shadows ready. Now we need your help to get it finished, funding the art, the layout, and the printing for our first run of books. And if we can get a little extra to get us started, we’ll be able to work on new Playbooks (The Hallowed! The Dragon!) and City Guides for cities around the United States (and maybe the world?). In other words, help us make this an awesome game!

WunderWerks Publishing Launches A World of Dew RPG Kickstarter

Ben Woerner of WunderWerks Publishing announced today that he is launching the Kickstarter for his new role-playing game, A World of Dew.

KS d20Monkey BannerV2

This table top role playing game is a sequel to John Wick’s hit RPG Blood & Honor. A World of Dew draws inspiration from Japanese Chambara films, movies like the 47 Ronin, and Memoirs of a Geisha, and game design inspiration from the Dresden Files, Houses of the Blooded, and Legend of the Five Rings.

A World of Dew with LogoIn this Samurai Noir RPG players take on the roles of Geisha, Sumo Wrestlers, Gaijin, Ronin, and more. The game is set during the Tokugawa Shogunate, a time of warring ideals between the old and new. Instead of playing in clans like in Blood & Honor or Legend of the Five Rings players design a vibrant city to explore with unique locations and threats that become the backbone of the campaign. The book is filled with gorgeous artwork from some of the greatest masters of Japanese woodblock printing like Hokusai, Hiroshige, and more.

The Kickstarter launch offers a wide range of backer levels and scads of rewards. Starting as low as $10 for the PDFs of both A World of Dew andBlood & Honor and going as high as $3,000 there is a tier for everyone. The rewards are no less extensive: PDFs, softback copies, custom dice, limited edition hardbacks, stone Honor markers, hachimaki headbands, custom happi coats, custom character rewards, and more. The Kickstarter shares both a quick overview of the rules as well as some of the fantastic art that will be appearing in the book. It will run until early June.

OGH is a complete, new game from Green Fairy Games, makers of Fae Noir.

Of Gods & Heroes is inspired by mythology – the action movies of the ancient world. We’ve created a system that encourages stories with the same over-the-top coolness and creativity that is embodied in the most ancient storytelling traditions. The focus is on empowering GMs and players to build their own epic – a story unique to their larger-than-life characters, whether your campaign is set in ancient Greece, Viking-era Norway, the height of the Aztec empire, or in a post-apocalypse where the gods have returned.

arm-wrestlingExciting combat is backed by a robust social conflict system and flexible magic.

The system is “rules-medium” with a core d6 dice pool mechanic and consistent, modular sub-mechanics that all support exciting stories and an emphasis on player agency and fun.

The OGH Kickstarter will run through May 18th, but some rewards are limited, so check it out today!
